Zeldin responds to Rikers Island correction Officer stabbed 15 Times by an inmate: “Crime emergency”

Republican candidate for New York Governor Lee ZeldinMonday night’s stabbing attack on Rikers Island Correctional Officer was condemned and the government declared a “crime crisis.”

Zeldin released a statement that Fox News Digital obtained. It stated that “an officer was just staggered 15 times while on duty in Rikers Island” and is now in the hospital. “Praying for the selfless officer and wishing him speedy recovery. We must immediately repeal the HALT Act and bring back the blue.

Democratic New York Governor Kathy Hochul — currently polling a A razor-thin margin ahead of congressman Zeldin a week before Election Day — signed the Humane Alternatives to Long-Term (HALT) Solitary Confinement Act into law in March after its approval by the Democratic-controlled state legislature. 

The law restricts the use of solitary confinement to all prisoners for a period of 15 days. Other restrictions are placed on disciplinary measures that advocates consider “psychological torture”.

Zeldin stated, “On Day ONE when I declare a Crime Emergency New York, this dangerous and illegal law will be among several pro-criminal statutes that I will suspend.” 

Benny Boscio is the president of Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association(COBA) was furious at the “heinous, non-provoked stabbing” of the correction officer and blamed the HALT Act.

Boscio stated Monday night that an inmate had brutally stabbed one of our Correction Officers in the back of the head earlier today while he was working in the Anna M. Kross Center protective custody unit. “The Executive Board is with the officer at hospital. He’s conscious and is undergoing testing. Mayor Adams and Commissioner Molina, I thank for visiting the officer. This atrocious attack is a reminder of why the Public Advocate and City Council need to immediately pull the Bill that would end punitive segregation.

An officer was attacked at the Anna M.Kross Center (AMKC) Monday around 4:45 PM. The officer suffered severe injuries and was taken to the local hospital. He was later declared stable. According to the authorities, the incident is still being investigated. New York CityDepartment of Correction.

“This was a unprovoked heinous, callous attack on a dedicated officer, who was just doing their job,” Louis Molina the Commissioner of New York City Department of Correction said in a Fox News Digital-recorded statement. “We won’t accept any assaults on our Members of Service, who show up each day to help keep our jails secure. This deplorable attack has been committed and we are remanding the suspect. We pray for the officer to make a quick recovery.
