California’s 40th Congressional district candidates

Kim, a freshman member, sits on House Committees of Foreign Affairs, Science, Space and Technology and Small Business.

Kim, a fellow California Republican Rep. Michelle Steel and Democratic Rep. Marilyn Strickland from Washington made history in 2020 as the “The” president. First Korean American womanCongress was the first time that she was elected. Kim narrowly defeated Gil Cisneros (an incumbent Democrat) by just over 1 percent. She flipped back the House seat she gave to Cisneros for 2018.

Kim took a page out of the GOP’s playbook and focused her campaign on border security and inflation. Kim spoke out against abortion, an issue that she has voted against repeatedly, to the Los Angeles TimesAlthough she declared herself pro-life, she also said that she respects the Supreme Court’s decision. She believes that abortion should be left to the states.  

Before she arrived on Capitol HillKim, a South Korean-born Kim, has been a constant presence in Orange County’s Asian communities. She was the former Republican Rep. Ed Royce’s director of Asian affairs and community relations. She was also a member in the California State Assembly, 2014-2016. 

Kim’s challenger Mahmood (a pulmonologist) Pakistani born and raisedAfter receiving his medical degrees, he came to America and settled in the United States. 

He told the audience that if elected, he would have supported abortion rights, and fought for Roe v. Wade to be codified as federal law. Times

California’s 40th Congressional District: Voting history

California’s 40th Congressional district is a wealthy, suburban district that is anchored in Orange County. It includes Aliso Viejo Mission Viejo Rancho Santa Margarita und Tustin. But it also extends into Corona, Riverside County, San Bernardino County and Chino Hills. 

District was changed the most in redistricting after 2020 Census. Kim did not represent four-fifths. 

Under the previous boundaries of the district in 2020, Joe Biden won by just over 10 percent over President Donald Trump Redistricting in the decennial periodThis made it more favorable for Republicans. Biden in 2020 would have been favored by the new district almost 2 percentage points. However, Republicans still enjoy a slight advantage over Republicans in terms of voter registration. 

The money race

According to OpenSecretsKim raised $8.4million, spent $8million, and had $769,000 cash in her bank account as of October 19. Mahmood was her challenger and raised $3.3 million. He spent $3.2million, had $147,000 cash left, and had $3.2 million in his bank account as of October 19.

On November 4, there were more than 20 superPACs, national committees, politically active non-candidate organizations, and over 20 super PACs. spentApproximately $3 million was spent to support or oppose candidates in the race, even during its primary phase. The Congressional Leadership Fund, a Republican Hybrid PACKim’s support alone was responsible for more than half of the spending.
