WSL players to watch in 2022-23: Who will make the most of England’s Euros win?

The new Women’s Super League season starts this weekend with Brighton’s trip to ArsenalFriday will be the start of the action. There has been money spent. New faces have appeared.

WSL preview: Euros stars, Chelsea favorites, Everton surprise package


Jorja Fox, Brighton

Having joined Chelsea’s academy as an eight-year-old, Fox has long been tipped for great things. Fox signed her first professional contract at age 18 and made her senior debut for the club in 2020-21. She is currently on a season-long, loan basis at Brighton.

Now, 19 Fox spent the last season on loan at ChampionshipClub Charlton AthleticTo gain first-team match experience, while also travelling across London once a week to train with her parent club. Star players Sam KerrAccording to reports, Magdalena Eriksson and the attacking-minded fullback were able to offer guidance during the season.

Managers are given a new contract for the period 2025 to 2025. Emma Hayes’ belief in Fox, who will be hoping to prove herself in the WSL at Brighton this season.

Aggie Beever-Jones, Everton(Loan from Chelsea

Already making an impact for England’s youth teams and in senior football, Beever-Jones joined Everton on a season-long loan in August. The Chelsea academy product, the 19-year old made her senior debut against Aston VillaIn the 2020-21 season, before spending last year on loan to Championship side Bristol City.

Beever Jones helped them finish third, scoring five league goals during her first season of regular professional football. She operated as a winger last season and showed her threat with five goals in two games for England Under-19s, including two in a 4-1 win over Norway in that age group’s European Championship this summer.

Carrie Jones, Leicester City(on loan from Manchester United)

Expectations are high for 19-year-old Jones, which is unsurprising given she made her senior international debut for Wales at the age of 15 — she came off the bench for Jayne Ludlow’s side in a European Championship qualifier in 2019 against the Faroe Islands.

Jones is a technically gifted midfielder who joined United’s under-21s from Cardiff CityIn 2020, before she made her debut in the WSL 2021. After her impressive achievements over the past three seasons, she will be moving to Leicester on a loan.

Olivia McLoughlin – Aston Villa

McLoughlin looks set to move up to Villa this season after she was promoted to the senior team under Gemma Davis for the 2020-21 season. She has been a regular for the England Under-19s and made 19 WSL appearances in the last two seasons. The 17-year-old is a versatile midfielder, who can also be used at fullback. This young player is part of an increasing number of talented players at Villa.

Kerstin Casparij, Manchester City

This is easily the most prominent name on the list, especially considering that she represented the Netherlands at this summer’s Euros.

City’s new signing from FC Twente in her homeland has 15 senior caps already at age 22, making her an exciting arrival in the WSL. She is tasked with filling in the gaps. Lucy Bronze’s shoes for City but is a modern, attack-minded right-back who should suit a possession-dominant side.

Casparij, who made her senior debut as a Heerenveen teenager in the Dutch Eredivisie, joined Twente at the age of 15 and moved to Manchester in 2020. She made her City debut against Tomiris-Turan in Kazakhstan’s 6-0 win. Champions LeagueLast month, qualifying and performing well as part both of a back 4 and a a rear 3 team.

Everton: Emily Ramsey, Everton (on-loan from Manchester United).

England has a strong goalkeeper team, and there are many young talents who want to emulate them. Mary Earps, Ellie Roebuck, Hannah Hampton Sandy MacIverIn the senior team. Ramsey is one such prospect and was sent on loan to Everton, where she will be replacing MacIver, who joined Manchester City.

Ramsey was 21 when he played 15 times in WSL on a difficult loan. BirminghamCity were relegated from the Championship.

Ramsey came through United’s academy but joined Liverpool for a short spell before the launch of the senior women’s side at Old Trafford. She is a regular for England’s youth teams has also been on loan at West Ham and Sheffield United.
