Woman Rescues Dog From Euthanasia, Then Realizes She’s Saving More Than One Life

Luna didn’t have a permanent home and was in a worse place. The local social services office threatened to take her to the hospital if she couldn’t find one. She needed a loving caregiver immediately.

Fortunately, Lucie Holmes was coming on the way.

When social services informed Lucie about Luna’s predicament, she understood what she had to do right away. Luna, a boisterous 12-month-old German shepherd who runs Lucie’s Animal Rescue in North Yorkshire, England, appeared to be pregnant, which confounded Lucie, who leads the organization.

Lucie thought Luna was pregnant, and a veterinarian scan confirmed that. Luna was about to give birth to puppies, and Luna was pregnant.

“I think I had a panic attack,” Lucie said. “I had nothing for puppies.”

In addition to making sure Luna had all she needed to stay well through the remainder of her pregnancy, Lucie hurriedly prepared her home for the puppies’ arrival.

Two weeks later, the puppies arrived. Lucie and her loved ones were shocked to see how many Luna had given birth to when she gave birth.

Lucie stated, “We were expecting four, possibly five puppies. [We]It was amazing to see her deliver 10 babies! I stayed up with her all night, and she was amazing.”

Luna, despite being only a few years old, has already proven she can be a great mother. Luna is a great mother, as she ensures that her puppies get plenty of food and stays positive.

All of Luna’s young will be available for adoption through Lucie’s Animal Rescue once they are old enough. The search for Luna’s forever home will continue.

Lucie has a lot respect for Luna. She is a strong caregiver and treats her puppies and family with such tenderness.

“She’s been incredible,” Lucie said. “I’m so proud of her.”
