A PetSmart employee noticed something in a stray cart outside. The woman approached the dog and the timid dog raised her head to cry out.
The concerned worker immediately sprang into action, likely saving the young pup’s life.
“[The dog] was posted on a Facebook group by a PetSmart employee asking what they should do,” Chrissy Elder — Forgotten, Now Family Rescue founder — told The Dodo.
Monroe, the dog Elder named Monroe, sat in a cart for almost 30 minutes before anyone noticed. Even worse, she needed emergency care.
Elder and her team were able to quickly respond to Monroe’s call and get her the help she needed.
“I said our rescue would step up,” Elder said. “I met the employee at an emergency vet to take over custody and care.”
The complex surgeries required for multiple wounds to be treated on the 3-year old pit bull mix. Monroe may not have survived without the help of her employee. The sweet dog is now doing much better.
“She’s not expected to need further care,” Elder said. “[She] should live a very normal, healthy life.”
Monroe is currently in a foster home, waiting to find her forever family. Elder noted that though the tough pup has been through so much, she’s a lovable gal with nothing but gratitude.
“Monroe is the sweetest,” Elder said. “She’s never met anyone she didn’t fall in love with immediately. It blows my mind since everyone failed her.”
Now that Monroe is healed and thriving, she’s ready for whatever comes next.
