Woman finds entire dog family ‘thrown away’ in trash and helps give them a new life

Houston, Texas – A woman was returning home from work when she came across something very tragic. Two stray dogs appeared to be settling down, despite the fact that they were living in trash bins and on mattresses.

The Good Samaritan immediately called a rescue group nearby for help. However, when they arrived, they found more dogs than they expected.

According to Sylvia Lopez of Houston Dog Outreach Guardians, “We went the next day to assess and set traps as they did not trust us. We quickly managed to trap the momma dog, and we also trapped a young female dog that we believe was her daughter from her previous litter.”

Lopez soon discovered that mom and baby weren’t the only ones in dire need. Lopez discovered that the entire family needed assistance, including the father, mother, three daughters and grandmother.

“We managed to chase behind Grandma, then she got tired of running and gave up,” Lopez said. “She didn’t put up a fight [because] she was exhausted.”

The rescue team tried to capture half of their dog family over the course of the day, before setting traps that evening. All was well by Monday morning.

“I went to check the traps at 5 a.m. and, thankfully, Daddy and puppy were trapped safely,” Lopez added.

Lopez missed one trap when rescuing the rest, as there was still one dog that needed to be saved, the youngest daughter.

“I left the area to reunite the puppy with her momma and daddy with the rest of the family,” Lopez stated. “Later that same day, we went back to check the trap and finally trapped the last dog, the young daughter. We reunited the whole family at our holding facility.”

Once everyone had a comfortable place to sleep and a delicious meal to eat, their personalities were born.

According to Lopez, “2-year-old Momma — now named Naomi — was very sweet and trusting. 8-month-old puppy daughters were timid and scared, but now they’re warming up to us. They’re very sweet girls. The 2-month-old baby puppy — named Abigail — was timid and scared but now is warming up to us and very playful.”

Thomas, Daddy dog, is now more courageous and brave when his dog family is present. He is also two years old. Grandma, however, is ten years old and loves to take long walks.

The rest of their family is now in foster homes while they wait for their future homes. Shannon and Christel will be temporarily staying at Grandma’s rescue.

This loving family endured all that life dealt them. That is what love looks like.
