Her owner abandoned the dog in a park, most likely because she wanted her to starve. Esme begged the park walkers for help for weeks. Esme was saved by a local rescuer who heard about her.

The woman reaches out to Esme in this video and offers her food. The dog initially seems scared but eventually she accepts the food. Esme calms down and the rescuer realizes that Esme was lactating. The poor mama dog was actually longing for her puppies all along!
No one had ever seen puppies anywhere near the park, so Esme was taken by the woman for a walk in the area. She hoped that Esme would point to the direction of her puppies. Two hours later, the puppies were still not seen.

The woman eventually came to the bitter conclusion that someone had taken Esme’s puppies away or they were eaten by predators.
It is also possible that her mother had abused her to get puppies and abandoned her after they were born. There’s really no way to know what happened to these tiny souls.

Esme was later placed under the care of “Art N’ Paws” rescue, and she found a loving forever home soon after. Poor Esme’s story really broke our hearts. There are many rescue groups working tirelessly for animals’ welfare. It is absurd to abandon pets. This is a terrible thing for any pet.
