Wilko Johnson (Dr. Feelgood guitarist and ‘Game of Thrones actor) has passed away at the age of 75

A statement posted Wednesday on Johnson’s official social media accountsOn behalf of his family, the musician was declared dead Monday evening at his southeast England home.

“This is the announcement that we never wanted to make and we do so on behalf Wilko’s family, the band, and with a very heavy soul: Wilko Johnson died,” began the Facebook post. 

He died peacefullyIn his sleep at Westcliff On Sea’s home on Monday, 21 November 2022. He was 75.

Johnson was born John Wilkinson on Canvey Island in 1947. He was educated at Newcastle University in Anglo-Saxon literature and then worked as an educator before forming Dr. Feelgood together with friends.

Johnson was not only the lead guitarist for the blues-rock band but also played Ser Ilyn Penny onscreen. “Game of Thrones.”

Johnson was elected president in 2012. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancerIt was declared terminal. He was shocked to discover that he would die. He refused chemotherapy and decided to embark on one final tour with Roger Daltrey, The Who.

Johnson said to The Associated Press, “I suddenly found myself in a position where everything matters anymore.”

“I’m a miserable so-and-so normally. … I’d be worrying about the taxman or all the things that we worry about that get in the way of the real things. And suddenly it doesn’t matter. All of that doesn’t matter.

Walking down the street makes you feel extremely alive. You’re ‘Oh, look at that leaf!′ You’re looking around and you think, ’I’m alive. Ain’t it amazing?’”

Johnson declared that he had been cancer-free after a procedure to remove a 3-kilogram (3.66-pound) tumor. In 2018, Johnson released “Blow Your Mind” and continued to play gigs with the Wilko Johnson band until last month.

Johnson is survived his sons Simon, Matthew, and grandson Dylan.
