White Sox’s poor season ends in a miserably and with a clear mandate

CHICAGO — Voting was naturally a group process, but the master of ceremonies for the White SoxPostgame ritual of awarding Randy Moss jerseys after wins to anointed pitcher or player of the match was performed by an energetic veteran infielder Josh Harrison.

“Decisions might be based on input from other people, but as far as the announcement, I was the one on the mic,” said Harrison. “It was just something to look forward to that gave guys a little extra edge to go out and play the game, play hard and see what we can make happen tonight that might be special.”

It may just make a.500 season less frustrating. But the most disappointing thing about a White Sox campaign marked by disappointment and lethargy was the tireless efforts to make it work. The players who pitched or swung through pain in support of a lost cause, and the postgame clubhouse discussions to rally a group that would never rally.

“That we could do it,” José AbreuHe spoke through an interpreter of his repeated message to his team this season. “That we could do whatever we needed to do to make the playoffs. But at the end, we didn’t do it. We didn’t make it.”

“This is the first time for a few guys that they’re not going to be in the postseason,” said Elvis Andrus. “My advice is, ‘I felt the same way.’ I went to back-to-back World Series my first two or three years in the league and thought it was so easy.
