White House is criticized for promising to keep an ‘eye’ on misinformation on Twitter: “Absolutely insane”

Karine Jean Pierre, White House press secretary was subject to new criticism Monday after she stated that the Biden administration is keeping “a close eye” on it Elon MuskTwitter was recently acquired by. 

Reuters’ Andrea Shalal posed a question about Twitter becoming a “vector” of misinformation, which sparked her remarks at a press briefing. Shalal was curious about the “tools” that the administration has, and who is monitoring Twitter at the White House.

Jean-Pierre said, “This issue is something that we are certainly watching closely.” “Look, we have always been very clear that when it comes to social media platforms it is their responsibility to make sure that when it comes to misinformation, when it comes to the hate that we’re seeing, that they take action, that they continue to take action. This is something we are all monitoring closely.

She continued, “We’re all monitoring what’s currently occurring. We can see the changes in Twitter with our own eyes, and we are also monitoring what you guys are reporting.

“But again, social media platforms have a responsibility not to be used by anyone to incite violence particularly violence directed at individuals as we have seen and the president has been very clear about calling that out. He’ll continue to do that, and we’re going to continue to monitor the situation,” Jean-Pierre concluded.  

Social media users immediately focused on the “ominous” statement by the press secretary about the administration “keeping an eye on” Twitter.

Bryan Dean Wright is a conservative commentator, and a former CIA Officer. He tweeted, “These words are those of a dictatorship.” It’s not a republic.

House Judiciary GOP tweeted “Why is Biden White House scared about the First AmendmentAnd @Elon Musk

Ilya Sharpiro, Manhattan Institute director of constitutional Studies, stated that Jean-Pierre’s remarks likely violated the Bill of Rights. 

Shapiro tweeted, “That statement sounds alarming and is likely to be a First Amendment violation in itself.” 

James Hirsen was a New York Times best-selling author and lawyer who encouraged the development of lawyers. Biden administrationMusk’s social media platform should be replaced by “Keep an eye at the border”.

Tim Young, conservative comedian and author, said in a tweet, “The White House hates freedom speech.”

He concluded that “the case for the censorship claims and facts is simply fatally flawed.” Some things may be worth barring from TOS. But regulating the flow of ideas based on whether they’re true is insane and dangerous, and the executive long ago violated the public/private boundary.”

Florida’s Voice editor Brendon Leslie accused elected Democrats being fascists. 

“The Federal Government is keeping a ‘close eye’ on @ElonMusk for simply allowing free speech The Left is projecting- they’re the real fascists,” Leslie wrote.

Dave Rubin, host of ‘The Rubin Report,’ tweeted that it was “Absolutely insane” to see The Machine pursue @elonmusk because he defends free speech. This whole exchange is kabuki theater, from the ridiculous leading question by the ‘journalist’ to KJP’s obviously pre-planned response.”

Musk responded to Rubin’s tweet. Musk himself responded to Rubin’s tweet. He wrote, “This is ridiculous.”

Twitter was long accused of biasing against conservatives before Musk took over the platform. Twitter famously censored Hunter Biden’s laptop story in the New York Post just weeks before the 2020 election. It also suspended accounts of conservatives like Jordan Peterson and Donald Trump. While allowing the Iranian AyatollahChinese government propagandists remain.
