What will be the weather like in Qatar for 2022 World Cup, and what is the difference in time to the UK?

The 2022 World Cup begins in November with 32 countries heading to Qatar to compete for football’s biggest prize.

Despite the tournament being held in winter, Doha will see many teams acclimatizing to the hot weather.

After the Premier League has come to an abrupt halt, England will need to quickly adapt to the new conditions in the Middle East.

Temperatures are expected to play an important part in the tournament. What is the weather like there and how does it compare to the UK?

Qatar weather

Qatar has an average temperature of 29 degrees Celsius throughout the year, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees in the summer months.

The World Cup will be played in winter because the heat is too high in summer. The temperatures will be much higher than in the UK.

Qatar’s average November and December temperatures are 26 and 21 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Stadiums will include air-con to help deal with the heat

To combat heat, stadiums will have air-con

Comparing this with the UK, you will see that November averages 7-12 degrees and December highs are nine.

The tournament will take place in two of the hottest months in Qatar.

A December relative humidity average of 71% is higher than the country’s average of 59%.

These numbers will be even greater in stadiums so to counteract this, they have installed state of the art air conditioning inside.

Time difference between the UK and Canada

The UK currently lies two hours behind Qatar, but the time difference will decrease to three hours once the tournament begins.

This is because the clocks go back in the UK in October before the World Cup begins while in Qatar, the time difference doesn’t change.

England’s group fixtures will take place on November 21, November 25 and November 29.

Kick-off times for the UK are at 1pm in the opening match and 7pm in the other two matches of the group stage.

These games will be played in Qatar three hours later than normal due to the time difference.
