What can Virginia Tech’s Brent Pry do for offense? Five thoughts after Miami

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Despite four losses in a row, a streak that used to be unheard of at Virginia TechAlthough it is now commonplace Brent Pry still promotes positivity.

After another loss, the first year head coach was upbeat and positive. He has not lost sight of his mission to highlight the positives and not be too hard on his team.

Is he worried that four consecutive losses could start to dampen his positive preaching to the team?

“No, I don’t think so,” he said after the Hokies’ Loss to Miami 20-14Saturday. “Again, I think there’s evidence of the things we’re doing well. You’ve got to build on that. We’re not where we want to be in any sense. Practice habits, dealing with adversity, recruiting, operations — we’re not where we need to be. But we’re working in the right direction.

“I think a team that will fight to the end, week after week, with heartache. It’s a sign of a really good culture and laying the foundation where it needs to be. There’s some vital things that we’re doing that are important to building a successful program, and I see a lot of that, which is encouraging to me.”

Here are five thoughts the day after the Hokies’ loss against Miami:

1. Pry’s comments about the offense are about as close to criticizing an assistant coach as he’s gotten.

Again, the Hokies were offensively poor.
