WH press sec mocked for linking inflation rise to spending bill, saying relief starts ‘early next year’

Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary, was ridiculed Monday for her promotion of Biden’s American Rescue Plan and Inflation Reduction Act to answer questions about when Americans can expect relief at higher prices.

During White House press briefingEdward Lawrence, Fox Business correspondent asked Jean-Pierre if there was a timetable for Americans to feel economic pain relief.

“Inflation Reduction Act will see some pieces when they think about energy costs and the Medicare benefits that come with it. So, we’ll see some movement on that early next year,” she said, before claiming gas prices have gone down and over-the-counter hearing aids will help.

The reporter responded by pointing out that it had been 18 months since gas prices started rising and inflation began to be apparent in other economic sectors.

“Well, 18 months ago, the president signed the American Rescue Plan more – back in April of 2021,” she said, adding that it was “only Democrats” who voted to pass the massive spending bill and claiming it “helped the American people.”

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark) said, “She finally gets to it.” 

Matt Whitlock, a Republican staffer, joked that “Oh we remember @PressSec” while posting a chart showing how inflation has increased with the passage the American Recovery Act.

Tommy Pigott, RNC director of rapid response, further tweeted: “Sounds almost like cause and effect.”

Kevin Hern, Oklahoma Republican Congressman, replied simply, “Exactly!”

Jean-Pierre’s statement that the Conservatives were also interested in him was also taken advantage of by the Conservatives Inflation Reduction ActThis won’t happen until “early next years.”

Conservative commentator Chad Felix Green tweeted, “The economy needs to warm up.”

Donald Trump, Jr. wrote, “From the same lying hacks who brought you ‘inflation is transitory.’

Eddie Scarry, Federalist columnist joked “Enjoy the holidays FOLKS.”

Townhall.com columnist Derek Hunter remarked, “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for your vote today.”
