West Ham maintained their 100 percent record in UEFA Europa Conference League. They won Group B with a 1-0 triumph over Silkeborg despite a poor goal from Pablo Fornals
Manuel Lanzini’s first-half penalty gave the Hammers all three points on home soil but it was a lacklustre affair.
The game exploded into life in the 24th minutes when the hosts were awarded an extra spot-kick for forward. Michail Antonio.
The Jamaican international seemed to have pushed the ball out, but he took advantage of a clumsy move by Nicolai Hansen, the Danish goalkeeper to win the foul.
Although Lanzini was able to slot home the ball without breaking a sweat, that was as exciting as it got.
West Ham missed five of their 15 attempts, which was a disappointment.
Ian Abrahams, a famed Hammers fan and talkSPORT reporter was one of the few who didn’t get it.
He told Kick Off: “They should have been 2-0 up but there was a criminal miss by Pablo FornalsA few minutes into the second period, he was gone.
“Literally he was passed the ball by a defender who didn’t see him there and from 15 yards out he didn’t even hit the target.”
In the end, it didn’t matter and David Moyes’ men coasted to victory on a fairly dismal night in east London.
“Let’s face it, there’s not many here tonight,” Abrahams said with 30 minutes to go. “The game didn’t really mean a lot and it’s very expensive to come to football, as we already know, so the atmosphere is poor, the game is poor, it’s like a training ground exercise.”
