Wesley Fofana experienced delight and huge disappointment in quick succession during Chelsea’s Champions League clash against AC Milan.
The French defender, who joined the Blues from Leicester in a £70million deal this summer, scored his first goal for his new club to break the deadlock at Stamford Bridge.
Thiago Silva scored a header from a corner that Ciprian Tatarusanu saved. Fofana then scrambled in the box to collect the ball. It was 24 minutes later.
But just 14 minutes later Fofana’s joy turned to despair as he hobbled off with a worrying looking knee injury.
It happened in quite innocuous circumstances, Fofana landing awkwardly after a challenge by Rafael Leao, Milan midfielder.
Fofana was left in tears when Trevoh Chalobah replaced him.
Chelsea have provided good value for their lead. Silva saved a lot of effort, while Raheem was unable to pull the trigger on goal. Mason Mount was also disallowed for offside.
They came close to being beaten in the second half, as Charles De Ketelaere was denied by Kepa Arizabalaga. Rade Krunic then skied the rebound and left the goal gaping.
