Betsy was happy to leave the Humane Rescue Alliance. After spending over 200 days there, she was finally ready to go home with her new family.
Betsy didn’t need to be anxious because as she cast her final peek at the shelter, she noticed a jubilant mob of rescue workers encouraging and supporting her.
Ashley Valm, the Humane Rescue Alliance’s director of adoptions, said to The Dodo, “I had chills.” “I observed a few of my coworkers sobbing. Everyone was happy to see her go home.

The employees at the rescue were moved by Betsy’s unbridled love for people when they first saw her when she arrived. Betsy was discovered living alone in Southeast D.C.’s Anacostia area.
As you pet her, “[Betsy] will look at you and lean softly toward you,” Valm explained. She hasn’t met someone who she didn’t like.
However, Betsy found the shelter to be stressful and didn’t get along with the other dogs as well.
The rescue workers understood that Betsy would need to wait a bit longer before they could find her the right home. They made every effort to make Betsy happy while they waited. They even invited Betsy into their home to get away from the chaos.
She adored spending time in our directors’ offices because there were no other dogs there, according to Valm. She loved to cuddle with our employees, and would spend the whole day resting on the office couch. She was a joy to work with and a delight to be around.
Clear the Shelters Day was being celebrated at the animal shelter when Betsy was adopted. There was a hum of anticipation in the air.
According to Valm there was already a party mood.
The workers of the shelter radioed to one another on walkie-talkies as word of Betsy’s impending departure spread, pleading with everyone to come see her go.
They cheered and shouted encouragement as the adorable puppy left for her next adventure. Knowing that they had helped her to change her life by showing compassion and empathy, they rejoiced.
