Taylor Lorenz, a Washington Post columnist who has been controversially defended the Chinese Communist Party’s actions, raised eyebrows this weekend zero-COVID policyWhile criticizing her employer’s reporting.

The Washington Post tweeted on Saturday a story about China’s record coronavirus cases.

“A coronavirus epidemic in China is about to be the worst pandemic, and it has exposed a crucial flaw of Beijing’s zero Covid’ strategy. This strategy leaves a large population without natural immunity,” the tweet said.

The article seemed to have hit a nerve for LorenzHe responded to this with a lengthy Twitter rant, praising China’s authoritarian COVID lockdowns, and accusing the U.S. for killing “millions” of vulnerable people by reopening it.

She wrote that there is no permanent ‘natural immunity to COVID.” Because there are so many evolving strains, and the antibodies wane, you can get covid over-and-over again. The internet culture reporter also argued that not killing millions of people, as the US is doing, isn’t a “critical flaw”.

Lorenz responded to backlash online by tweeting that the article contained “a lot of nuance btw.”

“The original article linked is mostly about vaccines and gets into a lot more nuance btw, but I wanted to clear things up for people who may simply skim a tweet. She said, “Keep safe out here.” “And btw agreeing with forecast, large scale permanent disabilities ≠ blanket agreement with anyone’s policies. So please stop saying I’ve endorsed policies I’ve absolutely never spoken about much less endorsed!”

Lorenz retweeted an October clip by a Chinese business advisor justifying the country’s Zero COVID lockdowns. The consultant claimed that the West will be destroyed 10 years after long-Covid paralyzes the U.S. workers.

“Tbh he’s right,” Lorenz responded at the time. “Millions of people around the world are becoming chronically ill/permanently disabled. It is a serious condition that can ruin your ability to live a normal existence. Leaders and the majority of media ignore this and lie to ppl about it.”

Chinese protesters clashed with police this weekend over Draconian COVID policies. The country’s infection rate continues to rise. Lorenz’ CCP praise is a result. Tens of thousands of people have been relocated to camps as a result of the zero-COVID policy. It includes strict lockdown measures that even saw some doors closed. In China’s restrictive political climate, protests of any kind are rare. The police have been harshly disciplining workers and students who demonstrate.

CHINESE RESIDENTS CELEBRATE DELEVERY IN COVID RESTRAINTIONS

Lorenz’s tweets caused a storm online. People called her support of CCP “sickening” and pointed out China’s human right violations. Lorenz’s original Twitter settings forbid users from responding directly to her post unless they were followed by her. Outraged users, however, reshared her posts and criticized her message.

“‘Sickening. Washington Post ‘journalist’ and obsessive Covid maximalist Taylor Lorenz is now full-on defending the Chinese Communist Party’s massive human rights violations… just days after civilians burned to death in a locked-down apartment block in Urumqi,’ Christian Pushaw, aide to Gov. Ron DeSantis wrote.

Later, she added that Taylor Lorenz is to China the same as Walter Duranty under Soviet occupation was to Ukraine. “The greatest evils known to mankind have been committed by the legacy media.”

“Lorenz just out there cheerleading China’s welding people into their apartments lockdown zero Covid policy and that’s all good I guess,” Stephen L. Miller (Spectator USA contributor) Submitted.

Jimmy Quin, National Review reporter said Lorenz’s take “ought be disqualifying.”

“So WaPo’s tech columnist is counter-programming China’s mass demonstrations against the brutal zero-Covid policy with this comment seeming to back the logic behind Beijing’s approach,” he wrote.

Lorenz later tweeted that her comments were not meant to endorse zero-COVID, but that she was agreeing that there will be “permanent long term disabilities” that will disable the U.S. workforce.

Quinn responded that even “if, as she says here, her comment wasn’t meant to be an endorsement of the zero-Covid policy, it’s the wrong emphasis right now,” he wrote, “and it ought to be disqualifying.”
