Walmart Launches Virtual Fitting Room App for Clothes Testing at Home

  • Walmart’s next stage of personalizing online clothes shopping is called “Be Your Own Model”.
  • In 2021, the retail giant bought virtual try-on platform Zeekit.
  • To try the 270,000+ items available, customers can upload a photograph of themselves.

Walmart offers a more personal online shopping experience through a virtual try-on service that allows customers to view how clothes fit on their bodies.

The new feature — which launched on Thursday to iOS users on the Walmart app — comes after the retail giant acquired virtual fitting room startup Zeekit in 2021. Walmart launched its March debut of its Technology called “Choose My Model”. which allows customers to choose between 50 models of varying sizes to see how clothes fit on a body similar to theirs.

Now in its next phase, “Be Your Own Model,” users can try on more than 270,000 items on their own bodies — but they’ll be required to strip down to underwear or tight-fitting clothing first in order for the feature to work accurately.

Denise Incandela (Walmart’s executive vice president for apparel and private brands), said that the experience allowed customers to visualize how clothes will look on their bodies. Statement

Users with smaller budgets still have options. Walmart’s app allows users to choose whether they want to see clothing on a model or to become a model.

Walmart “Be Your Own Model” does not use the same technology as before, which would place a photo over another to create virtual try-ons. Instead, Walmart uses machine learning and algorithms to create a more realistic fit.

Incandela explained that Walmart was the first to offer a virtual experience for apparel brands on a scale. It’s also the most realistic application I’ve seen.

Walmart is the latest retailer who has joined the virtual-try-on movement. Amazon was the first retailer to embrace virtual try-on in August. An augmented reality service was launchedThis allows customers to virtually try on shoes, while other retailers such as Macy’s or Adidas also offer this service. Previous collaborations with Zeekit were used to test virtual reality.
