Violence “Is Actually The Only Thing That Can Stop Violence”

  • Ted Cruz, Senator from Texas, reiterated his stance against gun controls on Saturday at Texas Tribune Festival.
  • Cruz addressed a crowd and suggested that violence was the only thing that can stop violence.

Ted Cruz, Senator of Texas, has reaffirmed his antigun control stance and stated that violence is the solution. 

Cruz stated at the Texas Tribune Festival, Austin that “lots” of people on the right say, “Look! Let’s just get rid all the guns!”

Without citing any evidence, he stated that “What that would signify” was that 500,000 to a Million more people were victims of crime. These include rapes, murders, and assault. 

According to FBI crime statistics, in 2020, there were nearly 540,00 violent crimes.

An audience member interrupts Cruz, asking him about AR-15s. Cruz replied by discussing the shooting at the First Baptist Church, Sutherland Springs, Texas, in 2017. Stephen Willeford, the gunman, shot 26 people dead and nearly two dozen other victims.

Cruz stated, “The weapon Stephen used to stop that was an AR-15.”

Cruz was then interrupted again by an audience member who stated, “violence does not solve violence.” 

He responded, “It’s the only thing that does it.”

Then the senator appeared to blame Democrats for the murder rate, which rose 30 percent between 2019 and 2020 — the most recent data, per The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

“Violence doesn’t solve violence? He said that this is why the left wants police to be abolished and why murder rates are rising.”

 “How much more carnage are we willing to accept?” Biden asked.

Biden said, “This is about defending children, protecting families, and protecting whole communities.” It’s about protecting our right to go to school, to shop at a grocery store, or to worship without fear of being shot and killed.
