Veteran Army With Service Dog Monitoring Outside Daughters’ Schools

Anthony Triplett Jr., an Army veteran, will spend more than 20 hours a week policing the sidewalks in front of his daughters’ schools.

Triplett was medically discharged in 2018 from the Army and decided he wanted help.

Although what he is doing is entirely legal, Thurston County’s sheriff isn’t so sure, and the district claims to have had a few parent complaints.

Jude, Triplett’s assistance dog, follows him as he monitors the schools.

Prior to being forced to leave the Army by a leg injury, he had served two combat deployments to Afghanistan. His two children thought he had been called back after the Uvalde school massacre in May.

My children and other children asked me, “What are they doing to keep our safety?” Triplett uttered, ”

Triplett stressed too much.

Although he hasn’t had to act, he said he’s prepared in case something does.

“I’m going in,” he said, “if I were to hear an explosion or gunfire, or something like that, see a mass of people running out, say they said someone was firing.”

Triplett is allowed to do whatever he wants, but the sheriff of Thurston county would prefer Triplett not leave security to the experts.

The actions of Triplett, according to state senator Patty Kuderer, “are a scathing indication of where we are as a culture.” She added she empathizes with Triplett.

Triplett asked, “What’s the better thing we can do right now to keep our kids safe?”

Triplett acknowledged that some people might feel uneasy about what he’s doing, but he said he’s making schools safer.

“We expose our children to risk. I don’t feel right about it,” he declared. “It’s not like the schools aren’t making enough of an effort. Teachers should be able instruct.
