UN condemns Russia’s “attempted illegal Annexation” of Ukraine Regions; Zelenskyy and Biden applaud vote

Wednesday’s resolution by the United Nations General Assembly was unanimously approved. It recognizes the territorial. Integrity of UkraineIt condemned Russia for its illegal attempts to annexe four Ukrainian territories. The resolution called on Russia to reverse its annexes.

The 193-member international body voted 143-5 to back Ukraine’s pre-annexation borders, a decision Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of UkrainePresident Biden applauded.

Zelenskyy stated in his nightly address that “the protection of Ukraine’s territorial integrity is the protection the entire international legal system, starting with the UN Charter.”

He stated that “many potential aggressors are watching the reaction of democracies at the farce arranged Russia by sham referenda, attempted annexation.”

Russia, Nicaragua, Syria, and the United States voted against this measure. Belarus, which supports Russia’s ongoing invasion, was also among the dissidents. North KoreaOfficially, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

There were 35 abstentions from the vote.

Iran, which supplies kamikaze drones to Russia for use in Ukraine, didn’t vote.

Ukraine’s U.N. ambassador, Sergiy Kyslytsya, called the vote “amazing” and “a historic moment.”

Oleskii Makeiev – another Ukrainian ambassador, said that the UN resolution result was a “clear vote for solidarity of the whole world with Ukraine.”

President BidenThe vote showed that the world was “more united than ever” to hold Russia responsible for its violations.

It is “a clear signal” that Russia cannot erase any sovereign state from the maps and “cannot change its borders by force”, he said.

Olof Skoog of the European Union called it a “great success” and said that it sends a clear message to Russia that Russia is not isolated.

The vote is almost here U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield told the assembly that the United Nations was initially established following World War II on an idea “that never again would one country be allowed to take another’s territory by force.”

“The resolution also sends out a very important message to Moscow, and to everyone else: It does not matter whether you are a small country, rich or poor, old, or new. Thomas-Greenfield explained that U.N. member states have their borders protected by international law and that they are considered yours. “They can’t be drawn by anyone else using force.”

Zelenskyy suggests that peace with Russia cannot be achieved looking ahead President Vladimir PutinIt is at the helm.

In a nightly speech, he stated that “Now one person is preventing peace and this person was in Moscow”.

“Now, even though we don’t have the chance to do diplomacy with Russia because their leader believes only in terror, we still need defense support. “On the battlefield, peace can only be won,” he said.

The General Assembly had previously voted on March 2nd to demand an immediate cease-fire with Russia, the withdrawal of all its soldiers and protection for all civilians. It was passed with 141-5 and 35 abstentions.

Later that same month, on March 24, the assembly overwhelmingly supported a resolution blaming Russia for Ukraine’s humanitarian crisis and urging an immediate cease-fire. It passed 140-5 with 38 abstentions.

Ukraine’s government estimates Russia has lost about 63,800 troops in during its invasion, which started on Feb. 24.
