Ukrainians vote in Kremlin-backed territory whether they want to join Russia in “sham referenda”

There are many controversial referendums about whether to vote. Moscow-controlled regions in UkraineRussian-backed officials claim that the Russian government encouraged them to join Russia on Friday.

The referendums will ask whether certain Ukrainians would like their regions to join Russia. Votes are expected favorably to go in Russia’s favor. Westerners and Ukrainians denounce itBoth accuse it as being illegal and a step towards annexes.

The referendums cover four territories that are currently under occupation and will likely be used to justify the Kremlin’s annexation of the Ukrainian territories and increase the Russo-Ukrainian War.

Voting is being conducted in the Luhansk and Kherson regions, as well as the Zaporizhzhia-controlled Zaporizhzhia (partially Russian-controlled) and Donetsk areas.

Residents will be given ballots by election officials within the first few days. They will also set up temporary polling stations. Russian officials claimed that they were voting for “safety” reasons.

Next Tuesday will mark the end of the referendums and residents will be invited to vote at their regular polling places.

If Russia wins the vote, it will give the Kremlin a pretext to say that Ukrainian forces are attacking Russia directly in an attempt to regain control.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian PresidentHe mentioned “sham Referenda” in one nightly address, and also called Russian citizens his “accomplices for all these crimes”.

Russian president of Ukraine declared that “you are already accomplices to all these crimes, murders, and tortures for Ukrainians.” “Because you were silent. Because you are silent. And now it’s time for you to choose.”

“For men in Russia, this is a choice to die or live, to become a cripple or to preserve health,” Zelenskyy added. “For women in Russia, there is a choice to either lose their husbands, sons or grandchildren forever, or to try to protect them from the death, war, and from one person.”

According to the Associated Press Russian social media sites were flooded by emotional scenes of Russian families saying farewell to their loved ones as they voted on Friday.
