Ukraine Claim World’s Second-Longest Sniper Death

  • The Ukrainian army claimed Wednesday that it had made the second-longest kill by sniper in the world.
  • The video was posted by the strategic command of the army.
  • This shot would be three times as high as the Burj Khalifa (the world’s tallest building).

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian army claimed to have achieved the second-longest kill shot by snipers in the world at a distance between 1.68 miles and 2.7 kilometers.

The apparent hit was shared by Ukraine’s Strategic Command. Telegram, declaring: “The occupier has been eliminated by a precise shot from our commandos located at a distance 2710 m.”

It would be similar to hitting a target at the center of New York’s Central Park, just a few blocks from Times Square. Or shooting roughly the length of just over three Burj Khalifas — the world’s tallest building — laid end-to-end.

24 seconds of grainy thermal imagery footage shows a figure that was identified by the Ukrainian armed forces as “the occupationr”, suggesting that the apparent killing took place in occupied Ukraine. The figure seems to be walking among trees.

The individual walks only a few steps before coming to an abrupt halt. At this point, the scope’s crosshairs appear over him. The figure falls to the ground a moment later.

Insider could not independently verify the footage and the facts provided by the Ukrainian army.

Although there is no definitive record of the longest sniper shots taken, it is believed that an unnamed sniper from Canada’s Joint Task Force 2 is responsible for the most far reaching hit in the world. Credited with a 2017 kill at 2.2 miles or 3.54 kilometers

The Ukrainian armed forces acknowledged Craig Harrison, a British ex-sniper, as having held the record previously for the longest shot. However, the Ukrainian army claims Harrison moved up to third.

An unnamed member from Australia’s second Commando Regiment in 2012 also claimed second place at 1.3 miles (or 2.81 km).
