Twitter’s Official Badges Have Been Re-Rolled for Certain Accounts

Twitter’s Confusion surrounding rolloutIt appears that the production of its “official badges” is still in progress.

Twitter’s support confirmed that badges were being added for some accounts. They first appeared briefly on Wednesday but then vanished.

A post from your support account Friday, November 5, 2018: “To combat impersonation we’ve added an “Official” label to some accounts.

The badges were originally given to news organizations and public figures, but they were taken away by Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter. They were “killed”, he said.

Musk may appear later in the afternoon. So calledThe labels are an “A visual nightmareHe said that they had created a two-class system. During a Twitter Space conversation, he made the comments. 

Musk’s tweet about badges being “killed” was followed by Esther Crawford, Twitter director of product management. ClarifyThis is the current situation. She stated that the labels were still being sent out, but with a new focus.

Crawford said: “The official label is still going out as part of the @TwitterBlue launch – we are just focusing on government and commercial entities to begin with. You saw him mention that we aren’t focusing right now on giving individuals the “Official” label.

KFC and Wendy’s were among the accounts to have the badge at the time of writing. Twitter, however, and even the New York Times do not seem to have this label.  

Insider reached out to Twitter representatives but they did not respond immediately.
