Twitter is developing a feature that will charge users for certain video content. The Washington Post reported.

The new feature, known as “Paywalled Video”, would allow content creators and users to charge a fee to view videos. According to an internal email obtained from the publication, this is the name of the new feature.

The email explained that once a video is added to a tweet, a creator can enable the paywall. Twitter takes a cut of the profits and creators have the option to choose how much to charge per viewer from a pre-set price list.

According to the email, the timeline for the feature is one to two weeks prior launch.

According to the Post, Twitter’s Product Trust team identified the feature as high-risk. The team highlighted “risks associated with copyrighted material, creator/user trust problems, and legal compliance.”

Per the Post, a brief overview of the feature will be done before the next steps are taken.

According to the outlet, the company has only three days for its internal review teams to give feedback under the accelerated timeline.

Insider received a request from Twitter for comment outside of normal business hours, but was not immediately responded to by Twitter representatives.

It is unclear if this feature existed before Elon Musk’s announcement. Takeover of $44 billionMusk has not yet confirmed that the company will be acquired, but the accelerated timeline could be part of Musk’s plan for more paid content to be created on Twitter. Musk already stated that he intended to Users are chargedVerification
