Donald Trump, the former President, has until next week for records to be turned over to the January 6th committeeThe deadline was extended, but the panel did not accept it.
Reps. Bennie Thomson and Liz Cheney, respective vice-chair and chair of the committee, said Friday that they had been in touch Trump’s lawyers concerning their subpoenas to witness and documents.
“We have received correspondence from both the former President’s counsel and him in relation to the Select Committee subpoena. “We have advised the former President’s counsel that they must start producing records no later then next week, and he remains subject to subpoena to depose testimony beginning on November 14th.”
Trump’s initial deadline to turn over documents was Friday morning.
Insider reached out to Trump representatives but they did not respond immediately.
The January 6th committee VotedThe ex-president was ordered by unanimous consent to be subpoenaed last month. They said they had “overwhelming proof” that Trump “orchestrated, oversaw a multipart effort in order to overturn the 2020 presidential elections and to obstruct peaceful transition of power.”
The committee is seeking records of communications between Trump and his associates, including text messages and phone calls.
Trump repeatedly dismissed the work done by the committee. Although Cheney previously stated that they had been in discussions with Trump’s lawyers regarding him taking a deposition it is still not clear if he will testify.
