Trump Thought He Could Visit the Capitol on January 6 like Mussolini

  • Jamie Raskin, Democratic Rep., said that the panel was made aware by Trump’s anger at not being able “join the mob”.

Jamie Raskin, Democratic Rep., is a member the House panel investigating January 6 riot. According to MSNBCOn Thursday, former President Donald Trump believed he would be given a hero’s reception by his Capitol supporters.

Raskin said, “Everything that I’ve heard suggests that the former President was furious.” Raskin responded, “He was angry, and there was conflict as to whether or not the former president would go to Capitol. And he insisted that he be allowed to do that.”

Raskin said that Trump was like Mussolini and he imagined that he would enter the Capitol being carried by his supporters. Italian fascist dictator

Raskin spoke after Secret Service agent Robert Engel — who was with Trump during the riot — testified to the House panel on Thursday.

After Cassidy Hutchinson (an aide to Trump’s former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows) mentioned him, the agent’s testimony was recorded. During her interview in June with the January 6 panel.Hutchinson stated that Trump tried to grab Engel’s steering wheel and lunged at him while requesting to be brought to Capitol.

Raskin stated that he couldn’t reveal any details regarding Engel’s testimony at the moment. But he said that the panel had learnt how Trump was “incensed by and enraged” about not being allowed on January 6, 2021 to Capitol Hill. Raskin stated that Trump demanded that he join the mob to approach the Capitol and allow them to enter.

Raskin stated, “Donald Trump actually went to bed that night on the evening January 5, believing that he would remain in office for an additional four years.” “And he believed it through the day.”
