Trump Defends the Supreme Court as a ‘Political Organ’ after a Ruling against him

  • On Tuesday, the Supreme Court cleared the way for Trump to release his taxes to Congress.
  • Trump slammed the court Wednesday in a series on Truth Social posts.
  • Trump’s appointments cemented court’s 6-3 majority, and led to Roe v. Wade being reversed.

After Tuesday’s rejection of his request to stop Congress from accessing his tax records, former President Donald Trump took aim at the Supreme Court through a series Truth Social posts.

“Why should anyone be surprised that my case was thrown out by the Supreme Court? They always do!” It is unprecedented to be handing over Tax Returns, & it creates a terrible precedent for future Presidents,” Trump said in a PostWednesday morning at 6:00 a.m. “The Supreme Court has lost its honor, prestige, and standing, & has become nothing more than a political body, with our Country paying the price.”

In follow-up PostsTrump repeated his complaints regarding the court’s handling in 2020 elections and referred back to leaked reports. A former anti-abortion leader claimed that the Hobby Lobby 2014 decision regarding contraception was leaked, in addition to Roe v. Wade being overturned. Leaked also.

He also accused the court, among other things, of being “petrified” of Democrats and trying “politically correctly” to do what is best for the USA.

Tuesday is the Supreme Court rejected Trump’s bidHis tax returns were not released to Congress because of this. House Democrats who had been seeking the returns from 2019 onwards were able to gain access to the documents at the same time as the party’s January loss of majority.

Trump refused to make public his tax returns when he ran for president in 2016, breaking with tradition. As part of its auditing of the IRS, the House Ways and Means Committee requested that the IRS release Trump’s tax returns in April 2019.

Trump requested the Supreme Court to stop the IRS from disclosing tax records to him to the House. The court denied Trump’s request without explanation and didn’t note any dissents.

Recent polling indicates that there is more trust in Supreme Court. Attained record lows. Many on the right see the court as Trump’s greatest achievement. In his one term as president, Trump appointed three justices — Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett — cementing the court’s 6-3 conservative majority likely for years to come.

The court’s new composition has produced significant decisions that were praised by Republicans but deplored by Democrats. The court overturned nearly 50-years of precedent by eliminating federal abortion rights. Trump’s central promises.

Insider reached out to the Supreme Court representatives but they did not respond immediately.

Chief Justice John RobertsThe high court and its other members have maintained their legitimacy in spite of increasing criticisms.
