  • Cheney previously stated that she would no longer vote for Trump if he is elected.

GOP Rep. Liz Cheney claimed that Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign would “splinter the Republican Party in two”.

A sprawling Sunday appearance on “”Meet the Press” the Wyoming lawmaker said her party is in a tenuous position and predicted that Trump securing the 2024 nomination would tip the scales toward division.

Cheney stated that the party must either come back from where it is right now, which is very dangerous and toxic, or the party will splinter, and a new conservative party will rise.

The history of the United States has seen many splits in political parties. Splits like these have sometimes led to the opposing party taking a lead for a while.

Former President Trump Continues to hint at a 2024 runBefore the November midterms, Democrats and Republicans are engaged in a close fight for control of Congress.

Cheney predicted that the party would “shatter” if Trump announces a campaign and eventually cinches the Republican spot.

She made similar statements during A visit to the Texas Tribune festival in September where she assailed both Trump and other members of her party.

Cheney stated, “I believe that Donald Trump, he was the only president of American history to refuse to guarantee a peaceful transfer of power.” “The fact my party has refused to stand up for him in the past months is a clear indication of how sick this party is.”

Cheney dodged asking questions about whether it was true or false. She might consider running for president in 2024But she assured the festival moderator she would do everything to make sure Trump was not nominated.

She said, “And if that is the nominee,” at the time.

Cheney is long been openly critical of Trump. The only two Republicans who have served on the Congressional Committee investigating the January 6th attack are Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, an Illinois Representative.

Cheney discussed the unprecedented subpoena Trump by the committee on “Meet the Press” over the weekend. She wouldn’t let him make his testimony before this panel a “circus.”

Chuck Todd told her that this is not going to be Biden’s first debate against him…and the food war that ensued.” “This is an extremely serious set of issues.

The lawmaker stated that Trump’s questioning would be done with the “levels and discipline and seriousness that it merits.”

Cheney’s outspokenness towards her party’s president has cost Cheney her: She lost her August primaryAn earlier Trump-backed candidate.
