Trailers, gameplay, and release date for Among us VR.

We’ve called an emergency meeting, not because a body’s been found, but because a brand new way to trick and deceive your friends is on the way. Among Us was a sleeper hit that didn’t actually hit mainstream success until years after its initial launch. This simple social deduction game became so popular thanks to streamers who were well-known, that its developers stopped working on a sequel in order to provide more support for the original.

This isn’t a sequel but it will allow you to feel the tension when one of your crew members is a fraud. VR is a common experience among us. This brings the 2D game into virtual reality, as the name implies. That is a major shift in perspective and immediately spices up the game’s flow. If you’re curious about what else may be changed and what details there are about how it will all work, we’ve sussed out all the information you need to know about VR is a common experience among us.

Date of release

VR is a common experience among usIt will be released sometime in the 2022 holiday period, which most likely means December due to how short the year is.

Platforms

VR is a common experience among usIt is, as it should not be surprising, a VR-exclusive title. It requires one of the following headsets in order to play it: Playstation VR, Meta Quest, Playstation VR, Steam-compatible VR headsets (HTC Vive Oculus Rift and Valve Index). There is a possibility that other VR devices may get it in future. However, for now, you can use these options to see behind the visors of crewmates or imposters.

Trailer

The trailer shows a yellow bean crew member wandering down a corridor before switching to first-person. The two men approach a panel and begin the task using VR motion controls. The panel is loading and they hear their crewmates talking. They turn their heads to see them.

Trailer cuts to a meeting in which all the crew members are seated around a table and arguing while yellow spins his fingers trying not to appear innocent. Everyone else stares directly at yellow.

This cycle continues: yellow completes a task and two others go by. One gets killed. An ever smaller meeting is held and suspicion is directed at the oblivious yellow. The situation finally comes to an end when red approaches and eats off the top half of yellow, leaving him/her as a ghost.

It’s just like Among Us, among Us VR won’t have a narrative of its own, but instead will be all about the narratives you and your friends create in each individual match.

Gameplay

VR is a common experience among usIt will follow the same core mechanics, but it will be optimized for VR. As a crew member, you will still be running around Skeld, completing tasks and trying to avoid dying. You also hold meetings to find out who the imposter(s).

The biggest changes will come from the shift to first-person, and using motion controls. The trailer shows that your field-of-view will be smaller than in the original game. This is because you were viewed from a third person perspective. You can still glance away from the task by simply turning your head. All the tasks we’ve seen involve interacting with panels via motion controls, which will probably feel far more novel to do than it looks on video.

It will be possible for imposters to still sneak through vents and perform sabotage tasks to cause discord among crew mates. A trailer shows one example of an imposter who can see through the slots in a vent to spy upon a crewmate.

Finally, you can use hand gestures to help identify imposters and dismiss them. It won’t help much if you’ve been caught outright, but it will give more life and personality to the most social part of the game.

Multiplayer

Similar to the first game VR is a common experience among usThis is only a multiplayer game. It can support between 4-10 players. You can also add one or more imposters depending on your settings.

Pre-order

You can’t quite pre-order VR is a common experience among us right now, likely since it doesn’t have a firm release date, but you do have the option to add the game to your wishlist on either the Meta QuestOr Steam store page. We will notify you when the pre-order information is available, including pricing and other platforms.
