Tottenham players had to remind their referee to issue a red for Tuta, after Eintracht Frankfurt defender received a second yellow.
The Brazilian was booked twice for a couple fouls on Heung-min Son in the Champions League group stage clash on Wednesday night – which ended 3-2 to Spurs.
Carlos del Cerro Grande from Spain apparently forgot to send off the Frankfurt right-back after his second booking.
It sparked mass confusion among both sets of players and Spurs surrounded the referee to remind him of the first offence – which occurred just four minutes earlier.
After an unexplained delay, the referee finally remembered to dismiss Tuta, and reduce Frankfurt’s number to ten men.
Sam Matterface, a commentator on talkSPORT speculated that Tuta might have been given yellow cards prior to seeing red.
Two fouls were committed during this second offence. Son was awarded an advantage after the first.
Del Cerro waved his card incessantly, appearing to indicate Tuta’s punishment for both cynical offences.
Graham Poll was known for displaying three yellow cards, before he showed red at the 2006 World Cup.
Co-commentator Matt Holland said: “I’ll star calling him Graham!”
