Pixis will overcome many legal hurdles in order to make the campaign a success. New York City’s Avigation Law bans all drone flights. Therefore, any aerial sales pitches must be kept within New Jersey’s borders. To fly in federal airspace, the company had to apply for a waiver from Federal Aviation Administration and a permit from New Jersey.

Already, critics are upset about the planned flight. New York State Senator Brad Hoylman for example, believes it is “outrageous” that drones are being used to fill the skies. He is now considering legislation to ban these ads. New York City Audubon is concerned that drones could disrupt bird flight patterns. There is a history of crackdowns on this kind of behavior — both the state and city kicked out a billboard-carrying boat in 2019.

It is unlikely that the drones can be escaped from this area. The future robotic flier can be viewed within 3 miles. This could potentially cover a significant portion of Manhattan, and possibly even western Brooklyn. It may be hard for NYC residents to ignore these tech-driven marketing spiels.
