Tom Cruise is said to be getting closer to becoming the first person to do a spacewalk or perform space acting. This comes more than two years after the original announcement that Cruise would make a film aboard NASA’s International Space Station.
NASA disclosed in May 2020 they had been in talks with Cruise and SpaceX about a cinematic production that was not connected to Mission: Impossible. Jim Bridenstine (at the time NASA’s chief) stated that “we need popular media to inspire new generations of engineers and scientists to achieve NASA’s ambitious goals.”
Talk to the BBCDonna Langley (Universal Studio chairperson), stated that sending Cruise into space is one of the studio’s goals, especially considering Top Gun: Maverick’s recent success and the upcoming M: I sequels.
Cruise, who is known for his death-defying stunts and boring CGI technology, will fly up to the ISS to become the first civilian to perform a spacewalk from outside the station. It is not clear if he will walk around the station as Langley stated or if he will enter the ISS as NASA has previously stated.
“Tom Cruise is taking the world to space. He is taking the world into space. “That’s the plan,” Ms. Langley stated to the media.
Tom and I are currently working on a wonderful project that involves taking a rocket up to the International Space Station. Maybe he’ll make history and be the first civilian to spacewalk outside of the International Space Station. She stated that he will be a down-on his luck guy who is the only one who can save the Earth.
The film’s production has not started. It is just an idea. Tom Cruise would become the first Hollywood star to film in space, as it was stated previously.
