A veteran sociologist and activist has warned that the US is still on the path to becoming a fascist country.

In an interview with The GuardianPublished Thursday, Frances Fox Piven — an academic Once threatened and targeted by far-right figures — warned that Americans should not get complacent after the midterms, where a widely-anticipated red wave for the Republican Party failed to materialize. However, the GOP did win control of the House.

Piven stated to The Guardian that he believes the fight for elemental democracy is not over. “The United States was well on the road to becoming a fascist country – and it still can become a fascist country.”

The idea of America falling under fascist controlThis has been mentioned, sometimes in reference to former President Donald Trump. Michael Cohen, ex-Trump lawyer and fixer. October, warningTrump is “a standard bearer of corrupt dictator wannabes”, and a “poster boy for fascism.”

Piven isn’t the only academic to predict a fascist turn in American politics in the near future.

Thomas Homer Dixonon, a prominent political scientist, warned that American democracy might collapse if Trump wins the election in January. In an opinion piece in The Globe and MailHomer-Dixon is a “scholar for violent conflict” and warned that the US is becoming more “increasingly insurmountable.” He predicted that the US would “descend to civil war” if its current trajectory continues.

Piven warned that while the Senate remains in Democratic Party control despite the results of the 2022 elections, there are still many things that could lead America to fascism.

Piven stated to The Guardian that there is the MAGA, the mad mob; an elite that doesn’t know what is needed for political stability; and a grab it-and-run mentality, which is very dangerous, and very strong.”

She said, “I was very scared about what would happen in this election, and it still could happen,”

Piven added that in the years to come, there will be “vengeance politics” and attacks on President Joe Biden from the right wing — particularly in a Republican-controlled Congress.

“The MAGA mob does not represent the majority of American citizens by any stretch, but they don’t have the majority to put in motion policies that will crush democracy,” she said.
