‘The Sandman’s saga isn’t over! Netflix officially revives The Sandman for Season 2

Netflix has confirmed The Sandman Season 2 will see the series return. Based on Neil Gaiman’s comics of the same name, the series’ news of renewal was earlier leaked through a tweet from DC Comics, its publisher but soon was deleted. An official announcement was made a little later, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Millions upon millions of people have welcomed and watched and loved The Sandman on Netflix, from established Sandman fans to people who were simply curious, and then became obsessed with the Lord of Dreams, his family and their goings-on,” Gaiman said in a statement.

“It gives me unbelievable pleasure to say that, working with Netflix and Warner Bros., [fellow executive producers]Allan Heinberg and David Goyer will bring more of their experience to the event. The SandmanStories bring life to your world. There are many amazing stories that await Morpheus, the others and more members of The Endless Family. This is going to make everyone happier than the Sandman cast, crew and friends. They are the biggest Sandman fan. And now it’s time to get back to work. There’s a family meal ahead, after all. And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell…”

The prior season’s 10 episodes were based on the initial 16 issues of the comic (with 75 of them being in total), where Morpheus’ (Tom Sturridge), after being incarcerated by an occult group for a century, has to restore order to the Dreaming, his realm. A surprise 11th episode was made two weeks after the premiere of the show. It was based on Calliope issues and Dream of a Thousand Cats episodes.

Netflix is not revealing how many episodes and which storyline will be featured in the second season. However, Netflix’s announcement adds that it will be “adapted from multiple The Sandman graphic novels.”

Warner Bros. TV productions The Sandman. Heinberg (Wonder Woman), serves as executive producer and showrunner with Gaiman, Goyer. The show’s large cast also includes Boyd Holbrook, Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Gwendoline Christie, Charles Dance, Jenna Coleman, David Thewlis, Stephen Fry, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Vanesu Samunyai, John Cameron Mitchell, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Joely Richardson, Niamh Walsh, Sandra James Young and Razane Jammal.
