After a frenzy of Apple releases that saw new products, there was a new Apple product. Apple TV 4K, M2 iPad Pros, 10th-gen iPad, iOS 16.1And macOS VenturaIn the span of one week, we expected new Macs to arrive anytime now. It looks like we may have to wait longer.
According to Mark Gurman, Bloomberg, Apple’s next round of Macs now won’t launch until 2023, likely at a March event. He reports that Apple is “aiming to introduce the upgraded models—including M2-based versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros—in the first quarter of calendar 2023.”
Apple has used its spring event to launch new Macs in recent years—last March saw the introduction of the Mac StudioAnd the April before that brought the 24-inch iMac. It would be the first Macless fall since 2017, however, if there are no new Macs arriving in November.
- 2021:MacBook Pro, 14-inch and 16,-inch (M1 Pro/Max).
- 2020:MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mac mini (M1)
- 2019:16-inch MacBook Pro (Intel).
- 2018: MacBook Air, Mac mini (Intel)
Gurman states that the new Macs and macOS Ventura 13 will be released simultaneously. Apple has just released its first beta version of macOS Ventura 13.1Last week, we thought that the new Macs would be launching with it. But while that release will likely arrive in November with Apple’s new Freeform app, Gurman doesn’t think new Macs will accompany it.
Apple reported a record $11.5 billion in Mac sales during its fiscal fourth quarter, but it warned that year-over-year growth likely wouldn’t be as high for the Mac in the all-important holiday quarter.
During its fourth-quarter conference call, Tim Cook said Apple was “approach[ing] the holiday season with our product lineup set,” which could mean that it’s done releasing new products. Cook could be referring to actual products, however, as the rumored products only represent M2 updates to the Mac mini and 14-inch MacBook Pro.
At any rate, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled over the next few Tuesdays just in case.
