The Kremlin refuses to acknowledge draft issues amid chaos in mobilization

Monday was a mixed day for the Kremlin. They defended their recent mobilization order, but acknowledged that the draft has been plagued by problems.

Conscription was a way to make the reality of war clear to the Russian people. Until now, most of them have not been affected by the conflict. The country’s mobilization could see as many as 300,000. Many of these reservists will be called upon to join in the fight, including those on the frontlines.

Tens of thousands of draft orders have already been issued – the Russian public isn’t happy.

Despite mounting military losses in Russia due to the loss of its personnel, it is clear that Russia values soldiers of all skill levels.

This is a late-in the-game adjustment and it’s unlikely to have any impact on Russia’s military performance. Insider has previously heard from experts.It is difficult to train and arm conscripts because of the country’s weak military infrastructure.  

“It is one thing to call up reserveists. But to make them effective in combat, you have to train them,” Simon Miles of Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy said last week. He is also an assistant professor at Duke University and a historian of USSR relations and the Soviet Union. “But the Russians basically have cannibalized this capability.”
