How did we get here?

Greenwood was initially arrested on Sunday, Jan 30 for rape and assault. He was further taken into custody Tuesday, February 1, for sexual assault and threats to kill.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said the arrest came after the force “became aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence”.

The police can hold suspects up to 24 hours before charging or releasing them. However, if there are violent allegations, this can be extended up to 96 hours.

A statement from police on Monday, January 31 said: “Detectives have been granted additional time to speak to a man in his twenties who is being held on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman… enquiries are ongoing and the victim is being offered specialist support.

“We remind people to avoid any commentary or sharing of images that could compromise the victim’s right to lifelong anonymity, or risk prejudicing a live investigation with active proceedings.”

Greenwood was released under bail, subject to further inquiries, Wednesday morning, February 2.
