What is Black Friday?

Black Friday falls on the Friday following Thanksgiving. Black Friday sales start early for many retailers so be prepared to see sales several weeks in advance. 

Black Friday deals will be available throughout Thanksgiving weekend, and Cyber Monday on Monday November 28. 

What retailers are offering Black Friday sales?

Black Friday sales are available at nearly every online retailer, including big-box retailers like Amazon. Black Friday was created in 1869 by two investors who caused a stock market crash and drove up the gold price. In addition to a 20% decline in stock market, the day also saw a 50% decrease in harvest value for wheat & corn. 

In the 1950s, nearly 100 years later, the term was reintroduced. The phrase “Black Friday” was used by police officers to refer to Friday between Thanksgiving and the Army-Navy college football match. People would travel to town on this day to shop, which forced local police to work longer hours to deal with the increased traffic.

Businesses adopted the term eventually, even though they initially tried to call it “Big Friday”. This name was never used and “Black Friday” became synonymous with massive shopping days in the 1980s.  

Black Friday 2022: Deal predictions

We have a good idea which products will be on sale this year based on last year’s discount and recent deals like Prime Day.

Black Friday deals on next-gen consoles are not what we’re expecting. PS5Xbox Series X. We expect major Black Friday restocks to take place closer to Thanksgiving at retailers like Game Stop and Best Buy. There will be some great deals on Xbox and PS5 games and accessories.
