Taliban to ban women from parks and gyms because of gender segregation. Headscarf laws “not observed”

Because of issues with citizens not adhering strictly to the rules regarding gender segregation or headscarf, the Taliban will ban women using gyms and parks from being used by them.

Mohammed Akef Mohajer, spokesperson for the Afghan Ministry of Virtue and Vice stated that “Unfortunately, orders were not followed and the rules were broken, and we had the to close parks and gyms of women.” “In most cases, both men and women have been seen together in parks and. The hijab was unfortunately not observed.”

“So, we had to make another decision. For now, all gyms and parks are closed to women. 

Mohajer stated that the group had done its best over the past 15-months to keep the areas open for women. They even tried to arrange different days for women and men to use the parks or gyms. Remain true to their gender segregation goalsThese measures didn’t work. To make sure that women are not using them, the Taliban will continue to monitor these areas.

International concern over women’s rights became a reality when the Taliban banned women from secondary education. The U.N. Security Council asked the Taliban to “swiftly change” their policy. The Guardian newspaper called it a ban on women’s higher education.

Suhail Shaheen (the de facto U.N. Representative for Afghanistan to United Nations) was previously a spokesman on the Taliban. He stated that comparisons between Afghanistan with Western countries are inappropriate when discussing social problems.

“We are a different society, an Islamic society, so we can’t be matched to a European society,” Shaheen argued.

“One year ago was We have done everything within our power, and you have in the U.S. centuries — all older governments — so you’ll have everything better, so we can’t be matched,” Shaheen said. “We need to take time to build everything and to align with Islamic laws, the norms that society. We hope with time to solve all our problems.”

The Taliban have repeatedly stressed that they would protect women’s rights “Within the bounds of Islam“But the limits of those rights are still unclear and ever-shrinking with every new policy.
