Stephen King returns in Mr. Harrigan’s Phone

When you’ve written as many stories as Stephen KingSome of them can blend together. If the trailer is not for your vehicle, it will be for you. Mr. Harrigan’s PhoneThis reminds me of Apt Pupil, then it’s understandable. Both stories focus on a teenage boy who forms an odd relationship with his mentor, an elderly man. But while Mr. Harrigan is no Nazi, he’s not an innocent either. Harrigan may be even responsible for a murderous rampage that took place beyond the grave, as you can see from the trailer.

Mr. Harrigan’s Phone | Official Trailer | Netflix

The film stars Donald Sutherland, a veteran actor. However, the majority of the movie is seen from Craig’s point of view (Jaeden Marttell). Craig, despite his outward appearances is a normal-looking boy who suffers terrible bullying and torment at school. That’s one of the reasons why Craig turned to Harrigan for advice. Craig is left feeling emotionally empty without Harrigan’s guidance when Harrigan suddenly dies. This leads to some questionable decisions.

If Mr. Harrigan really is rising from his grave to murder Craig’s tormentors, then it’s likely the kid’s fault. It’s not fair to leave a phone that is working with the body of someone who has died. And it’s always a bad idea to pay for cell service in Hell. If the living want to contact the dead, they should dial collect!

Craig may be losing his mind. But in King’s stories, it’s almost always supernatural in the end.

John Lee Hancock was the director and writer. Mr. Harrigan’s PhoneThe film will debut on Netflix in October.
