Stars increase to 3-0 by finding depth and production throughout the lineup

DALLAS — In recent years, it’s been the same script regarding the Stars. It was unlikely that the ending of the story would be happy unless the top line, top defenseman, and/or top goaltender made a valiant effort.

The times have changed.

Through their 3-0 start, the Stars have looked like a completely different team. These are some points to be aware of:

• The Stars notched their third regulation win in the third game of the season. That was the 16th game last year.

• The Stars have scored four goals in regulation in three consecutive games. They did it three seasons ago. It was a three-game stretch that ran from Dec. 29, 2019 through Jan. 3, 2020.

• The Stars were the only team last season to make the playoffs with a negative goal differential. The Stars are currently leading the NHL with a plus-10 goal differential after most NHL teams have played at least two or four games.

There are plenty of things to be encouraged about given how the Stars are playing, but Monday night’s display against the JetsHe emphasized one thing that could be considered the most important: The Stars might not be a shallow team.

Pete DeBoer saw the current roster as having offensive potential when he took over as head coach.

“I thought this group would be able to score,” DeBoer said. “I really did. I didn’t know to what degree, but I felt that we could be, and we would have to be, more than a one-line team, which is essentially the tag that was hung on (the Stars) last year, and probably warranted. We’re getting depth scoring. Through three games, nearly every line has contributed. That is what we want to continue. I like our defense, too.
