Soldier in the Army Rescues Dog Snuck on to Overseas Base

An Army soldier is doing everything in his power to save his closest friend and bring the youngster out of harm’s way.

U.S. Army Specialist Howe recently encountered a small dog while overseas and was shocked to his core.

The pup had found a covert way to get into the base.

According to Paws of War New York, Howe, the dog ran through a barrier and clung immediately to the soldier.

The terrified puppy appeared to be looking for cover from the “cruel” and “threatening” surroundings outside.

The soldier remarked, “It was as though he knew me.

Given that the dog was “extremely dehydrated and desperately hungry,” Howe gave him the name Doc and provided him with food and water.

Doc is now adamant about staying by the soldier’s side.

He has provided the entire camp a “much-needed morale boost,” Paws of War said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“He walks around his newfound family members, wagging his tail and giving kisses in exchange for a few belly rubs,” the organization said.

The other soldiers joke around with Howe, calling Doc his “shadow,” since the dog is “constantly behind” him.

“Wherever I do, he’s right there,” he said.

“I love having him with me.”

Howe said that simply having Doc nearby helped him and his fellow soldiers “sleep better at night.”

In order to keep his promise to his dog that he would “do everything [he] could not to leave him behind,” the soldier would have to ship the animal back to Kentucky.

Paws of War was approached by the soldiers when they needed help. The organization agreed.

I can now fulfill my pledge to Doc,” the serviceman added.

Howe told Paws of War that he proudly swore an oath to “assist and protect” as an infantryman, thus rescuing Doc is a “indescribable relief.”

“He has done so much for us here,” he said.

“And he deserves to come home with me where he’ll be safe.”

Doc is being held in foster care while he waits for a flight to America. Officials cannot confirm the breed of the dog until DNA tests have been completed once the dog has arrived in the USA.
