Sophia made her kennel feel homey when she arrived at Tri-Cities Animal Shelter’s August adoption. Although she occasionally felt lonely, the good news was that Sophia always had the option to peek her head over the wall and Duke, her neighbor would be waiting for her to offer a supportive prod.
Julie Saraceno, a volunteer at the shelter, told The Dodo it was heartwarming watching two canines find comfort in each other.
Saraceno noticed this when Sophia appeared suddenly on the other side the wall, while recording Duke for a DVD. Saraceno was touched by the tenderness of their conversation.
Saraceno remarked, “I could tell [Sophia]This was something I had done before. “I always appreciate it when the dogs at the shelter figure out a method to make their stay there a little less depressing and lonely.”
Saraceno captured it on a video.
Duke and Sophia shared an unlikely friendship. Sophia was well-known among shelter residents for her lively energy, while Duke is more composed.
“Sophia is a loveable goofball and enjoys leaning her entire body into you for pets,” Saraceno said. “Duke is more serious, but lets his softer side out occasionally.”
Duke, though, was unmistakably enchanted by Sophia’s adoration. Both of them arrived at the shelter from the streets, having been stray dogs.
“Sophia was desperate for a doggy friend!” Saraceno said. “We think she eventually wore Duke down with her persistence and gorgeous Dumbo ears.”
Sophia had found her forever family by September, but she will never forget Duke’s solace and generosity.
Duke is still looking for a place to call his own, where his family will be willing to offer him affection, just like Sophia’s. He is a calm and kind child who has lived at the shelter for the longest time.
