ScienceAlert: Study suggests that spins of brain water could indicate that our minds use quantum computation : ScienceAlert

The ongoing effort to realize the full potential quantum computingScientists could possibly look into our brains to find out what is possible. A new study has shown that brain and brain have a lot in common. quantum computer.

These findings may reveal a lot about neuron functions and the basics of quantum mechanics. For example, the research may explain why brains still perform better than supercomputers at certain tasks such as learning new information and making decisions.

Like many quantum computing research studies, this study examines the idea that Entanglement – two separate particles being in states that are linked together

“We adapt an idea that was developed to test quantum gravity. It involves taking known quantum systems and interacting with an unknown system. Christian Kerskens, physicist, saysFrom the University of Dublin.

“If the systems we know entangle, then it is likely that the unknown system must also entangle.” It avoids the problems of trying to find measuring devices that can measure something we do not know.

In other words, the entanglement or relationship between the known systems can only happen if the mediating system in the middle – the unknown system – operates on a quantum level, too. The effects of the unknown can be observed even though it cannot be directly studied. Like quantum gravity.

This research uses the proton spins from ‘brainwater’ (the fluid in the brain that acts as the known system) to determine the known system. Imaging by resonance (MRINon-invasive measurement of proton activity can be done using a scan. A quantum-mechanical property is the spin of a particle. This determines its electrical and magnetic properties.

The researchers were able see signals that resembled each other using this technique. heartbeat-evoked potentials, which are a type of electroencephalography (EEG) signal. These signals can’t be detected via a normal method. MRIThey did, according to the theory that the nuclear proton spins in their brains were entangled.

Although the observations of the team need to be confirmed via future scientific studies, the initial results are promising for non-classical quantum happenings in human brains when they’re active.

“Entanglement is the only plausible explanation for this phenomenon,” says Kerskens.

“We can conclude that these brain functions must be quantum”

The brain functions that lit up the MRI readings were also associated with short-term memory and conscious awareness, and that suggests the quantum processes – if that’s indeed what they are – play a crucial role in cognition and consciousnessKerskens suggests that.

What researchers need to do next is to learn more about this unknown quantum system in the brain – and then we might fully understand the workings of the quantum computerWe carry in our heads.

“Our experiments, performed only 50 meters away from the lecture theatre where Schrödinger presented his famous Thoughts about life“This book may shed light on the mysteries and complexities of biology as well as consciousness, which is scientifically even more difficult to comprehend.” says Kerskens.

The publication of the research was published in Journal of Physics Communications.
