ScienceAlert: Magic Mushroom Psychedelic Reliefs Severe Depression in the Largest Trial Ever

Since the 1980s, scientists have been trying to figure out how humans interact with each other. psilocybinThe psychedelic compound magic mushrooms contain, ”, can be found in the following: Depression symptoms can be eased.

A phase 2 double-blind trial with 233 participants provided further evidence. This was the largest study of this subject to date in terms of sample size.

All of the volunteers had been treated resistant. DepressionThis means that at least two antidepressant medications have failed to alleviate major depressive disorders.

Mental health care company leads the way COMPASS PathwaysThe Clinical trialsThe study lasted 12 weeks, and was conducted at 22 locations in 10 countries in North America and Europe.

The study involved three groups of participants. One group was given 25 mg of a synthetic version of the drug. psilocybinCOMP360, which was based on the psychedelic compounds found in magic mushrooms. A second group received 10mg and the last group, acting as the control, received 1mg.

“This study is by far the most extensive.” Clinical trialThe use of psilocybin to treat treatment-resistant depression has been shown to reduce the severity of symptoms by 25 mg compared to 1 mg. says psychiatrist James RuckerKing’s College London, UK.

There was however no significant difference in the results between the 1 mg and 10 mg groups.

However, it wasn’t all positive news. In the 25 mg group 84 percent of volunteers reported side effect such as nausea and headaches within the first three months. However, a few experienced more serious side effects including self-harm reports and suicidal thoughts.

Participants in the two other groups reported less similar experiences. Around three quarters of each group also described the less severe side effects. One percent of the COMP360 users experienced more severe side effects.

Researchers note that future studies will need to be more cautious due to side effects. However, they are optimistic about the subjects’ progress.

The psilocybin treatment was done in designated rooms that were designed to ease participants. A therapist was on hand until the psychedelic effects subsided and the individuals were free to go. This took anywhere from six to eight hours.

In the weeks to come, you will be able to see how the Montgomery-Ã…sberg Depression Rating ScaleIt was used to determine if there had been any improvement in the symptoms or moods of the participants in the trial. The scale asks about mood, anxiety, sleep, and appetite.

“These findings are a positive move in the right direction.” Rucker. “Our task is now to study psilocybin in treatment-resistant depression in larger trials that have more participants and compare it to existing treatments.”

Now, the researchers are ready to move on to phase 3, where the psilocybin treatment will be compared with the best available treatments for depression. We should learn more about this trial. Magic mushroomYou can use compound at any scale.

Researchers believe that psilocybin’s hallucinogenic properties alter brain connectivity in some manner. However, it is still unclear how this happens. Past studies also showed that the psilocybin compounds could be effective in. Alcohol addiction can be treated.

The study provided an opportunity to improve the treatment of psilocybin to patients. Therapy guidelines were created to help therapists manage initial hallucinations.

“A therapy manual was created as part of the training program to allow standardization of psychological support across locations and therapists around world.” says psychologist Nadav Liam ModlinKing’s College London.

The results of the research were published in New England Journal of Medicine.
