Samsung’s TizenOS is coming to TVs of other brands

LG last week AnnouncementSamsung announced that it would allow third party TV manufacturers to use its websiteOS platform. Now, its main rival is following its lead. Samsung has revealedIt will license the Tizen OS TV platform from Akai to non-Samsung models. The partnership includes Akai, RCA, and a bunch other brands (Bauhn Linsar Sunny, Vispera, Vispera, Linsar, Sunny and Vispera) that are sold in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

These manufacturers have access to TizenOS features, such as Samsung TV Plus (a streaming TV service), Universal Guide for discovery or personalized recommendations, Samsung Bixby, and other voice assistants.

We noted this when LG was launched. First announcedIt will license webOS for other TV makers. This gives buyers another option to lower-price smart TVs that could otherwise run Android TV and Roku. You may not be familiar with many of the names mentioned above, but Samsung is opening Tizen to US TVs.

Samsung’s Smart TV or LG’s WebOS are better options than Android TV. Both offer excellent search and personalization capabilities, multiple voice assistants (including Alexa and Google), as well support for Apple Airplay (but not Chromecast). Google TV is an important update to Android TV. However, most TVs and streaming boxes support Google TV. NVIDIA Shield TV still use the latter — though Google’s PlanGoogle TV will eventually be available on all third-party devices.
