Sad and scared dog lifts head so woman knew she was alive & takes her hand

Judy, an animal rescuer from Judy’s Animal Rescue Center saw a dog along the side of the road. She stopped her vehicle immediately.

Numerous cars drove past this pit bull on this busy road and didn’t stop to help him. It was obvious that the Pit Bull had suffered injuries.

Judy got out of her car and tried to call the dog to her, but the puppy couldn’t move. She was in great pain. Judy approached her and the sweet dog used her remaining energy to roll onto Judy’s back and wave her tail. This was her way of saying, “I’m a good dog and I won’t hurt you. Can you help me now?”

Judy was determined to get the Pittie in her car. The dog seemed tired and withdrawn. Judy reached out to her and the dog put his hand in. They continued driving that route for the 20-minute journey to the vet clinic. As if they were fighting to get their dog the help that he needed, they had their paws in each other’s hands.

Judy assumed the Pittie was hit by a car. However, the vet confirmed this was not true. Her old fractures were very telling. The poor dog was badly injured by someone who then dumped her along the side of the road as if she were trash. Judy wanted to give this dog an appropriate name… Mercy.

Mercy is slowly regaining her strength. She was excited about food, so Judy fed her by holding her hand. Judy wanted Mercy to feel comfortable in her clinic kennel. Mercy was immediately attracted to her new pink rabbit toy.

The rescue group provided Mercy with a wheelchair, but she didn’t appreciate it at all. She actually walked on her own the next morning after receiving the wheelchair from the rescue group. Mercy struggled at times, but she showed her willingness to learn and to keep trying.

Mercy was healing and her story was shared online. Mark and Sharon saw Mercy’s photos and knew this puppy belonged to them. Judy was contacted and they told her that she had a loving home for Mercy with a large yard. Judy knew this family was Mercy’s destiny.

It was a joyous occasion when Mercy came home. She met her parents with her tail wagging, her favorite bunny in hand, and her favorite bunny in the mouth. Sharon explains in the video below that her bunny, “her baby,” goes everywhere with her. It’s the cutest thing ever.

Judy returned to Mercy a few months later. Mark couldn’t wait to show Judy what Mercy could do now. They went to the big yard and Mark threw Mercy’s tennis ball with a pitcher. Mercy raced after the ball, as if it had never happened. It was unbelievable. The dog who couldn’t even stand up was now completely recovered.

Mercy’s story could not have ended any better. Thank you so much to Judy and TAO Animal Rescue, the medical staff, and Mercy’s new parents for giving her the life she deserves. To read Mercy’s full story by The Dodo, scroll down the page.
