House of the DragonAfter the end of Game of Thrones’ finale, the excitement over the finale of’s finale has been heightened by the curiousity of fans. With civil war looming, tensions between House Targaryen (House Hightower) have intensified.

The obvious struggle was between Rhaenyra, Emma D’Arcy, and Daemon Targaryen. Matt Smith plays Daemon Targaryen. Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), has taken over Aegon Targaryen’s (Tom Glynn–Carney) place on the Iron Throne. The most disturbing scene was Daemon’s chokehold on his wife, after he tells him about Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine’s) prophecy of Song of Ice and Fire. Her father didn’t tell Daemon.
This show is filled with violence, sex, and plotting. That’s the basis of the show. If people can’t handle a scene where someone gets choked, go watch Pride and Prejudice.

He choked her and this was the first time that one saw Daemon’s cruelty towards his niece/wife. Ryan Condal, showrunner, shared his thoughts about this scene. DeadlineD’Arcy’s and Smith’s mysterious performances made the moment powerful.
He stated, “That’s an incredibly frightening scene, and honestly, one my favorite scenes of the finale, that is beautifully performed Emma and Matt.”
The audience is reminded by Condal that Daemon was always like this, and the show doesn’t shy away from its truth. Condal stated, “I believe Daemon has very much shown you many colours that wouldn’t lead one to be all too shocked at that moment.” The primal danger lurks beneath the surface of everything, and it was just revealed in that moment.

Condal explains further that Daemon behaves differently because his brother did not trust him with prophecy. He snapped “It was obvious to him, that his brother never really considered him the true heir of throne.” This infuriated him,” he stated. It was the worst pain he could have to discover that Viserys had kept him. [the prophecy]It was from him that Rhaenyra shared so much. Daemon is just broken in that moment and that’s exactly how he responds.”
