Belgium manager Roberto Martinez knows he has ‘the best playmaker in world football’ at his disposal in Kevin De Bruyne.
And despite talkSPORT host Andy Goldstein’s best attempt, the Manchester City star will not be rested against England if the two nations meet at the 2022 World Cup.
De Bruyne, 31 years old, recently placed third in the Ballon d’OrStandings after many exceptional years at Etihad
Martinez, who joined talkSPORT, knew that it was not possible to predict De Bruyne’s performance ahead of Qatar 2022.
The Red Devils boss fully expects his star player to shine at the tournament after establishing himself as the world’s best player in his position.
When jokingly asked by Goldstein whether De Bruyne makes the starting XI, Martinez said: “That is the easiest question!
“We have certain players who are at the peak of their careers, and for me, De Bruyne is the best playmaker in world football.
“He got the highest position ever of a Belgian player in the Ballon d’Or.
“The role he has at Man City and the way he has been developing, it makes him one of the stars of the tournament, not just a star of Belgium.”
Goldstein tried his luck asking Martinez for a favor if England came up against Belgium.
Martinez, the talkSPORT host, was not happy with this request.
In fact, De Bruyne was made to reminisce on the Nations League defeat at Wembley in England in 2020.
He added: “I had to do that at Wembley and I still regret it to this day, so I won’t do it again!”
